DCGI ordered to limit dose of paracetamol in Prescription Combination Products and to give Box Warning...

As per the 59^th meeting of DTAB (Drug TechnicalAdvisory Board) on 24^th June, 2011 at New Delhi, it was consideredto limit the dose of paracetamol in prescription combination products and togive box warning for its liver toxicity.

A notification issued by DCGI Dated 23.09.2011, stated that proposal wasbased on a news release by USFDA on 13.01.2011, it had directed manufacturers of prescription combinationproducts in USA containing Acetaminophen (paracetamol) to limit the content ofAcetaminophen no more than 325mg in tablet or capsule alongwith inclusion of abox warning highlighting the potential for severe liver injury and a warning ofpotential of allergic reactions to be added to the label of all prescriptioncombination product containing Acetaminophen.

Regulatory Impact to Manufacturers:

All prescription combination products having paracetamol dose above 300mg per unit dose

Changes need to make:

1. Reduce Paracetamol content to or below 325mg perunit dose

2. Include Label warning for its liver toxicity

ImplementationPeriod:

Government allowed higher dose will be phased over 3 years to avoid shortage of painmedications to patients.

Virtual Clinical Trial – A Revolutionary Breakthrough in Clinical Trial Industry

Conducting clinical trials in a virtual environment is not a dream now. Using patients virtually in clinical trails will be possible through information and communication technologies available today. Through virtual clinical trials, it will be possible for patients to participate in clinical trials without making a visit to physical places. Securing patient’s consent virtually through video/multimedia and online testing will be possible soon. Clinical Investigators will send all study drugs to patient’s home instead of dispensing it at clinical site. Investigator will manage the study reports remotely, and share clinical trial data with patients, making them enable to add data to their personal health records.

Simulating clinical trails on computers can forecast their results, potentially optimizing drug development and saving the pharmaceutical industry billions.¹

Recently, Pfizer announced that it is conducting the first-ever randomized clinical trial under an investigational new drug (IND) application that manages study participation entirely using electronic tools and allows patients to participate in the clinical trial regardless of their proximity to clinical sites. The pilot project, initiated following review from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), uses mobile phone and web-based technology to collect necessary data for the trial without clinic visits.²

To make these virtual clinical trials successful without much hassles, several organizations work together for collaborative partnerships, like ProtonMedica and PPD joined together to introduce New Virtual Clinical Trial Training Solution.³ Previously, PPD added iPhone application to patient recruitment toolbox as part of efforts to use technology for patient recruitment and other clinical trails processes. Using the Apple iPhone and iPad application potential study participants and investigators can search a database of clinical trials. This application, social media and other technology can improve patient recruitment and other trial processes, but there is still uncertainty in this emerging areas.⁴

Excellent Move by Government of Gujarat to ban entrance tests and interviews for admission to primary schools

Once again, Mr. Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat proved his excellent administrative skills, through immediate notification on ban of entrance tests, interviews for admissions in primary schools.

Primary schools especially of English medium usually have policy of entrance test and interview of not only student but for parents also, will be adversely impacted through the rule on ban of tests and interviews. This kind of stringent move must be a part of Gazette notification issued by government of india for rights to education bill in 2009.

Due to this special rule, Primary schools (of all mediums and all boards) can not be allowed to interview children or their parents for admissions from the new academic session beginning June this year.

Schools can give admissions to children on the basis of first-come-first-served basis or by draw of lots. Primary education will work on a whole new set of rules from next academic year after the Gujarat government put out a notification to enforce the right of children to free and compulsory education act, 2009. The new rules apply to all school boards, including state CBSE, ISCE and others.

Private schools will have to reserve 25 per cent of their seats for underprivileged children in primary sections. This is aimed at integrating poor students into the mainstream. "All the parents should be given admission forms without any questions. Any form of capitation fee is also prohibited," the notification of February 18 says. The rule wants school to declare under what categories students are getting admissions.

Looking forward this kind of moves throughout India, will make India a powerful country, as education is most basic right of any child after food.

Six People Sentenced to Death by Government of China...

Recently, Ministry of Commerce of China announced “Six Chinese traders sentenced to Death who had exported fake antimalarial drugs to Nigeria under the ‘Made in India’ label”. However, they declined to give further details and identity of the involved.

It is became the critical controversial issue when last june NAFDAC, Nigeria said it had seized a large consignment of spurious anti-malarial drugs worth $ 210,000. The drug came from china and were distributed in Nigeria tagged “Made in India”.

Government of China apologized to Nigeria and promised a through investigation and punishment of those involved.

Chinese officials insisted India should share responsibilities, as some Indians have also been found exporting fake drugs to Nigeria. In Response, Officials of the Indian Commerce Ministry said they had received complaints about Chinese firms offloading counterfeit drugs as Indian products in South Africa, Ghana, Ivory Coast and other African countries.

Media reports quoted Paul Orhii, Director-General of Nigeria’s National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, describing the action as a case of “tremendous progress” in the campaign against fake and counterfeit drugs.

"Those people in China are facing death penalty. The India parliament also passed a law for manufacturing of counterfeit drugs. It will be difficult for Nigerian drug traffickers to go to India. In China, it is even worst the counterfeiter will be facing death penalty,” he was quoted as saying at a conference in his country.

Between 2001 and 2007, the Nigerian government banned about 30 Indian and Chinese pharmaceutical companies for exporting fake drugs. But sections of the Indian industry claimed they have suffered loss of reputation because of malpractices of Chinese exporters using the “Made in India” label to cover up their misdeeds.

Conclusion:

Healthcare Industry have to be ethical as it costs lives of millions people at all. Government and People have to intervene by making plans, policies and awareness programs to highlight these counterfeit and fake drugs. Pharmacist has moral responsibility to provide only safe and efficacious products to people.

Embracing Imperfection…!!!

A touching story by a girl Nancy in her own words,

"When I was a little girl, my mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. And I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work.

On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of fruits and extremely burned toast in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed! Yet all my dad did was reach for his toast, smile at my mom, and ask me how my day was at school. I don't remember what i told that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that toast and eat every bite! When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the toast. And I'll never forget what he said: 'Baby, I love burned toast.'

Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if He really liked his toast burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, 'Nancy, your Momma put in a hard day at work today and she's real tired. And besides-a little burnt toast never hurt anyone!'

CM Narendra Modi allowed Liquor official in Gujarat!!!

Gujarat government on Saturday declared liquor will be made available to the people living in Special Economic Zones (SEZ), who require to carry the required liquor card. Over a dozen Special Economic Zone's are expected to come up in the next two years in Gujarat. Against request also Group Permits allowed for same by SEZ development Committee.

Liquor card Details

> Minimum 21 Years of Age

> A Fee of 500/-

> 3 Year Validity Period

> Person who resides in SEZ

> For Purchase, possession, use and consumption of foreign liquor

> Applicable Conditions

Government Comments:

Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah as saying, "As all rules, regulations and laws within SEZs were different from that of the state it lies in, it is the same with the liquour issue".

Regarding law and order problems expected in future in connection with the exemption he said, "As the card is only to be used within the SEZ we don't see problems arising. However in case of smuggling the law will take its course." SEZ liquor cards, however, will not allow drinking at 'ceremonial and other functions or any assembly of persons'. The home department order also does not allow carrying liquor outside the SEZ limits.

In case of national and international conferences, business and academic meets, group permits will be issued to organisers by the superintendent of prohibition and excise in each district. And, liquor will be served only to delegates, members or representatives participating in the event'.

However, those classified as 'local person' — defined as a 'person residing in the state of Gujarat,' will not be able to consume liquor in these conventions.

Don’t surprise if in future, Liquor will increase graph of crime.

This type of show must be made in India, because India is large pool of budding entrepreneurs and to boost them to highest pick, this type of show really benefits them and encourages them.

You don’t think twice before cutting open Amul milk pouch every morning.

The fact is that it is transported from villages every morning, poured into aluminium cans twice a day, and then transferred to dairy plants where it is processed and packed in pouches – an exercise in which the milk may lose some of its freshness.

The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) that markets Amul has launched a major project that will help it provide international quality milk to everyone. It hopes to do away with aluminium cans and install bulk coolers in villages that will ensure there is no bacterial growth in the milk.

To start with, the 800-crore Kaira District Milk Producers Union, popularly known as Amul Dairy, will turn itself into a model for the dairy industry by setting up bulk coolers at all its 1100 villages co-operative societies in two years. Today, a mere 170 societies have bulk coolers.

GCMMF also wants all member unions to help 13,000-odd village societies achieve 100 per cent cooler facility in 3 to 5 years. Barely 2,000 societies in Gujarat have this facility today.

Conclusions & Benefit :

- Amul follows stringent international quality norms, but with high temperatures, some milk often turns sour. Equipped with bulk coolers, which ensure that will avoid wastage.

- The Project will save 30 per cent on transportation of cans, which will seem cost saving.

- There is no need to procure milk twice a day, hence saving on fuel costs too.

- State Government wants to fund part of the project, ensuring GCMMF does not have to hike milk prices.

Online Admissions for Engineering, Pharmacy Courses…

JAC-PC (Joint Admission Committee for Professional Courses) has decided to implement online admissions policy for Engineering and Pharmacy, to solve the problem of delay in admissions every year.

The MKC (Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation) has been using this type of online admission process for last three years and officers of JAC-PC have studied that process which will be replicated now.

The admission process for these 2 courses for first time go online from collection and submission of the forms to the admission information. The JAC-PC had drawn these plans in the last academic year, but they could not implement then.

Every government engineering colleges will be a centre, where computer terminals have been put up where the students can sit and fill up the forms. Twenty five such centres have already been identified which include 17 Government engineering colleges and rest polytechnics.

Each form will have over 40 options which will include all the colleges and branches they offer. The students will have to pick their options keeping in mind their percentage and last years cutoff marks for that college. The students will have to be careful while filling up the form.

We will provide as much assistance as possible. A student can refill the form by a payment of a fee which will make him eligible for the second and third list.

This will quicken the admission process from a few months to a few days. Once the forms are filled and the data is compiled, instantly we can bring out the admission list. This will also permits to start the sessions in time.

What the Chief Minister meant was the Gujarat was home to almost all the pharmaceutical majors such as Alembic Ltd and Zydus Cadila which had been able maintain growth and build on the golden history of the sector in the state.

Modi further said that because the medicine industry was highly dependant on research and development, it must invest in research in the fields of biotechnology, nanotechnology and other emerging technologies if it was remain relevant for the next 100 years.

The CM also called upon the new generation of entrepreneurs in the pharmaceutical sector to take the industry to new heights by giving equal importance to the medicine industry’s social responsibility.

In his speech, Chairman of Cadila Healthcare Ltd, Pankaj Patel, said, “Gujarat has always been a trendsetter for India’s pharma industry. It has the distinction of being the first state to have a clinical research organization, and the first state to manufacture machinery used in the pharmaceutical industry, among others.”

Pradeep Udhas, Head Markets, KPMG, said, “India’s pharma industry can grow to become a $25 billion industry in the years ahead. Exports can grow to contribute $10 billion to the industry while the domestic market may grow to $15 billion.” Udhas added that Gujarat’s pharma industry had the distinction of keeping costs low even as it maintained the same standard of quality offered by global majors.

OPEN FOR BUSINESS since 4 September 1994, Kansai International Airport (KIX) is one of only two artificial structures visible from space – the other is the Great Wall of China.

The purpose of this project was to build Japan’s first 24-hour international airport, in order to respond the increased demand for air transport not only in Kansai but in the whole of the country.

Three mountains in the southern part of the Japan’s Osaka Bay had to be leveled to provide the landmass, and transport bridges from the harbour 5 km (3 miles) away also had to be built.

The cost and constructional difficulties of this ambitious undertaking were outweighed by the ideal of an isolated flight-site with further expansion possibilities and without the need for noise restrictions.

Although the island is fully operational, this is only the end of Phase 1. Plans for Phase 2 include increasing the size of the island and adding a further two runways.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi should prepare himself for another stint in his office.

Narendra Modi, BJP Strongman is all set to return to power, though with fewer seats.

2007 is quite unlike 2002 and in these five years, Modi has completed a self-transformation and, it seems, that the people of Gujarat are buying the new Modi.

In 2002, Modi kick started his campaign in Rajkot, he unleashed a sword and than gave a speech about Gujarati ‘asmita’ and Hindu pride. In 2007, at the same spot in Rajkot, Modi began his campaign with no overt aggression and talked about Gujarat’s Development and how it can compete with china.

If the efforts of the Congress to regain its old KHAM – Kshtriya, Harijans, Adivasi and Muslims – formula work, the battle might be more closely fought than indication.

But Modi can be happy his campaign to project himself as a man concerned with economic issues seems to be working.

Recently in a survey of DNA-IMRS, shows subtle variation in responses between men and women, urban and rural respondents, Hindus and minorities and between regions.

In Survey, the sample was given 10 issues – Economy, Jobs, Poverty reduction, Inflation, Agricultural Growth, Industrial Growth, Law and Order, Communal violence, Safety and Security of minorities, Caste and Reservations – to rate.

The top 3 were Economy (34%), Inflation (22%) and Jobs (16%), all intractably linked with daily bread and butter.

But the downturn for Modi is that two of the top 3 – inflation and jobs – indicates dissatisfaction at the manner in which they have been tackled by the Modi Government.

Anyway, Gujarati peoples are all set to vote this December, because they have to decide who can rule the Gujarat government more efficiently BJP or Congress.

Gujaratis have spread out all over the world. But we haven't seen them influence India or Indians on the musical or cultural front. One might argue they don't have music and dance in their 'blood' the way Punjabis do. oh, then, what about dandiya?

I think the reasons are more mundane.

Gujaratis have excelled in running businesses from Uganda to UK to America. They're famous as owners of cornershops and motels - trades which require a great deal of time and commitment. That very work ethic may have prevented second generation Gujaratis from getting into 'faltu' things like making music.

But looks like that's changing!

Formula 1 is on its way to India. The Indian Olympic Association has received a letter from Bernie Ecclestone, CEO of F1, offering India a place in the 2009 Formula 1 world championship.

Indian grand prix would be held at Delhi on a track built specially for auto racing.

For India to be given an opportunity to host an event like a Formula 1 Grand Prix is a matter of great pride. Malaysia & Bahrain have been able to successfully stage races. There is no reason why India cannot do the same.

Facts about reputed (amazing surprise) ICRI campus in Ahmedabad....

Recently, one more ICRI campus (ohh... it’s a campus…?) had been launched in Ahmedabad.

There are some facts about it as below…

1) Location - ICRI, AHMEDABAD campus located in d heart of one the society of Ahmedabad. An Institute that situated at a residential gives you more emphasis in public management. Address is: 2, Devang Park, Ambavadi, Ahmedabad.

2) Placements - Out of 20 something student’s only one get his dream job in clinical research. Icri just highlights it and lures students accordingly.

3) Approval/Recognition - The biggest fact is that M.Sc. degree awarded in association with Cranfield University, and is not recognized and approved by AICTE/UGC.

4) Reputation – It’s a highly reputed institute by national dailies for getting profit by a full page ads.

5) Faculty - How that possible that institute giving so many ads for faculty positions there, even though vacant seats in faculty till next 5 to 10 years.

6) Tuition Fees - Icri collects in addition of 5 lakh tuition fees and lots off hidden charges of other things that a student not need.

7) Advice - Rather to join such institute by a pharmacy graduate its advice to take a job as CRA in any of CRO and get 2 year experience in clinical research to get broad emphasis there.

Biotech Biggies see growth in India…

Biogen Idec, founded in 1978 and said to be oldest biotech company in world, setup an Indian Subsidiary earlier this year with goal of doing R&D and integrating india into its clinical development programmes.

The $15-billion Amgen, the world’s largest biotech company, is said to be planning a direct presence in India, with its own clinical development centre and do core drug discovery related activities.

Other global majors like Genentech, Genzyme, Pall Life Sciences, Agilant Technologies’s biotech division, Histogenetics have either just setup base in India, or are seen to be clode to doing so.

Dr. Amanda Caples, Director-Biotechnology, state government of Victoria, Australia, believes it makes great sense for Australian drug development companies to look at India to conduct clinical trials and research.

It is estimated that trials cost 30% less to do in India compared to Australia and about 50% less as compared to US.

Impact of Indian Budget 2007 to Pharmaceuticals Industries…

While domestic formulation market is expected to grow moderately, a high growth expected in pharmaceuticals exports, initially driven by export to regulatory markets of Europe and US.

In d last 5 years, domestic formulation industry grew at a Compound Annul Growth Rate (CAGR) of 10.9% to $5.4 billion. Export of formulation and bulk drug, estimated at $5.2 billion in 2005-06, grew remarkably at a CAGR of 29%.

THE PLUS IMPACT

Reduction in peak customs duty on API (Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredient) and intermediates to 7.7% from 12.8% will have a marginally positive impact on pharmaceutical companies.

Extension of weighted deduction of 150% for expenditure relating to in-house R&D (Research and Development) for 5 more years until March 31,2012, will give further impetus to R&D spend.

THE BIGGEST BENEFIT

Clinical Trials for new drugs have been exempt from service tax, which will help India emerge as the preferred testing destination.

Report titled “Doing Business in South Asia” released on recently ranks Kolkata last among 12 major cities of India.

It takes only 35 days to register a property in Hyderabad against anywhere between 99 to 219 days in kolkata and 119 days in Patna.

In d current report, china is ranked 92. In South Asia, Maldives leads the ranking at 53 with Pakistan at 74, Bangladesh at 88, Sri Lanka at 89 and Nepal at 100.

Pharmacogenetics is the study of the genetic basis (individual variations in the DNA sequence of a gene) in individual responses to drugs.

Pharmacogenomics is the study of the variability in the information in a gene and its gene product observed in a population that is associated with susceptibility to develop a condition, as well as determining drug response. This is broadly applicable to drug design, discovery and clinical development.

In simpler terms, the differences between the two are the initial approach of the science.

Pharmacogenetics starts with an unexpected drug response result and looks for a genetic cause. Pharmacogenomics on the other hand begins with looking for genetic differences within a population that explain certain observed responses to a drug or susceptibility to a health problem.

First mumbai blast tragedy, then this flood across GJ,MH,AP REGIONS ruins several lives and affects so much people...i hope this situation shd not be come again...let us pray for that and giving support the victims of flood...

Child Labour is a most common problem all over india....

Number of working children in india is in millions count....

INTERNATIONAL LABOUR ORGANISATION r in attempt to eliminate child labour and to protect the child from industrial exploitation.

By identifying child labour in d unorganised sector, where great care is in need for compensation problem is crucial much more now a days...

So friends without our movements towards this noone can get success in eliminating child labour...

Shree S K PATEL COLLEGE OF PHARMACEUTICAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH at Gozaria-Mehsana highway, becomes now a constituent of GANPAT UNIVERSITY, indulged by great industrialist GANPATBHAI PATEL.

At SK, my each and every day starts @ 10:00 a.m. and completes @ 5:00 p.m.(actually it starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 1:30 a.m. only at HOSTEL.)

So, It's includes 3 hours lectures, 3 hours labs and 2 hours at library in which 1 hour reserves for newspaper reading everyday.

One of best thing i like during my graduation is my loving and caring friends and my living style @ DHARTI HOSTEL.

I Like SHINING TEETH of VIJAY DINNANATH CHAUHAN and Of course his smiling face with rejoiceness.

I Like BLACK COLOR of JCPATEL bcoz everytime at night it's difficult to find JC without TORCH.

I Like SMARTNESS of MEHUL THAKKAR bcoz it's inherited from his Home-town PataN, old capital of gujarat.

I Like SWORDNESS of MUKESH RAJPUT but it's BLUNT AGST girls.

I Like CHAKINESS of RAJU PARMAR bcoz everytime he smiles when someone (esp...vijay dinnanath) tells him,'CHAKI CHI CHI...".

I Like VULGARITY of product imported from DHANERA, Of course PANCHAL VIPUL.

I Like OVERSMARTNESS of AMIT VYAS bcoz it's reflects knowledge in every word spoken by him.

And how can i forget the great pagalboy PARAS PATEL (esp...THE GREAT PSYCHO!!!) from MODASA.

d actal thing same amg all is all of them r my close friends and each of them is helpful and kind person and esp. their lifelong careness.
